Vale Brewing Tropic Ale has won the award for World’s Best Pale Beer at the World Beer Awards announced last week, as well as being named World Best Bitter Up to 4.5%.

Australia won four awards in the Pale category, including:

  • Fox Hat’s Red Pelt awarded World Best Bitter over 5.5%
  • Coles’ Tinnies won Best English Style Pale Ale and
  • Heaps Normal’s Quiet XPA was awarded World Best Low Alc Pale Ale.

It is also worth mentioning that Big Drop's Galactic Milk Stout at 0.5 per cent ABV won the Gold/Australian Country award in the Flavoured Stout category, against full-strength opposition, in the first round of judging.

More than 3,200 beers from more than 50 countries entered this year’s awards with judging conducted across three rounds to identify the best beers in 10 categories.

Adrian Tierney-Jones, Chair of the World Beer Awards, said: “This year the World Beer Awards returned to being judged in person after two years online and I would like to thank the many judges who applied themselves to their tasks with diligence and great professionalism. It was great to see many from around the world.

“Congratulations naturally go to all the winners whose beers show an exciting snapshot of brewing across the globe today – it is not called the World Beer Awards for nothing and I’m already looking forward to next year’s awards.”
