Victoria Bitter (VB) has released a replica of the first can design released by the brewery in Australia. The limited edition heritage can will be available nationwide.

First made in 1958, the original VB can was made from steel to help keep the beer cool. The metal made the can bigger, but harder to open, so a 'modern' ring pull has been incorporated into the limited edition release to make it easier for today's drinkers.

Unlike the current can, the first VB can was mostly gold and white, with green only featured in the centre of the product to hero the brand's name.

Distributor Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) has said that it hopes the heritage can will provide a fun talking point for drinkers and something of interest for the beer category and retailers over the next few months.

"Victoria Bitter has been around for more than a hundred years and people enjoy seeing retro packaging and products rolling out," the company said.

As for inside the can, it's the same full flavour, full strength beer Australians love VB for.
