Waubs Harbour, the Tasmanian whisky distillery co-founded by ex-Lark and Overeem Rob Polmear, sold through the entire online allocation of its latest Kelp Revival limited edition whisky to mailing list buyers prior to its scheduled public release. This follows on from other recent sell out whiskies from the cult producer, including PX Sherry released in May.
As the name suggests, Waubs Harbour’s Kelp Revival has been crafted to raise awareness for the Tasmanian Giant Kelp Restoration Project currently being performed by The Nature Conservancy, The Institute for Marine & Antarctic Studies at the University of Hobart and CSIRO. Waub’s Harbour Kelp Revival was matured in Apera casks, finished in a rare 70 year old Tawny cask, and married with a hint of coastal peated whisky to impart a nutty, earthy complexity. Only 607 bottles of Kelp Revival were bottled.
Co-Founder Bec Polmear said, “we were blown away by the response to our new Limited Release whisky at the launch event, with the majority of guests taking home a bottle, and the excitement for the kelp restoration trials happening in Bicheno & around Tasmania, which our new release is in support of.”
An early consumer of the product, Customer Ian A, added: “At 45.7% abv you don’t get any alcohol burn, but rather a smooth and very tasty tongue covering whisky that stretches out around your mouth thanks to that salty element and big port soaked sultanas. Really enjoyed this whisky and can’t wait to get my hands on a bottle.”
Despite selling out online, a select allocation of Waub’s Harbour Kelp Revival has been distributed to leading whisky venues around Australia. For a complete list of stockists, visit the distillery’s website here.
