Wine Tasmania – the peak body for Tasmanian grape growers and winemakers - is inviting Australian wine trade representatives to participate in a wine-focused visit to Tasmania in June.

The visit will be over two days and take trade representatives around the island to meet the wine producers and sample their wines, as well as the local food, cider and whisky.

Wine Tasmania CEO Sheralee Davies said that visiting Tasmania was the best way to experience the island and its wine and to gain an appreciation of its diversity.

“We’ll be showing (and tasting) as much of Tasmania as we can squeeze into two days!

“This is an outstanding opportunity for wine trade representatives to experience for themselves the spectacular island we are privileged to call home.”

“With around 40 per cent of Tasmania’s wine being sold on-island to enthusiastic visitors and supportive locals, visiting is the best way to taste the breadth and diversity of wines available” Sheralee added.

“We provide a taste of the Tasmanian experience through the annual Tasmania Unbottled events in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, however it’s not the same as visiting and experiencing personally what makes Tasmania and its wine so special.”

The program also ran in 2014 for the first time, which was a great success according to Sheralee.

“We really only had quite a short time for trade to submit applications, which meant that our promotion was relatively limited, however the inaugural program still attracted 115 applications. All in all, a very positive initiative!

“This year, we have allowed around seven weeks for applications and I have already received 48 applications in the 48 hours since opening the 2015 program.”

The program is open to anyone currently employed in the wine trade in a position of authority for wine purchasing decisions. Applicants must be available to travel to Tasmania on Sunday 28 June and Monday 29 June.

Interested trade representatives are invited to submit their interest by Friday 1 May, through this link. Confirmed participants will be announced Friday 15 May.
