This week, Yalumba has released the 2019 vintage of The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz to the prestigious La Place de Bordeaux, a historic fine wine marketplace and distribution network. The new vintage release coincides with Yalumba’s 175th anniversary and marks the wine’s second consecutive year on the leading French marketplace.
"We are honoured to be part of La Place de Bordeaux, showcasing The Octavius on a global stage,” said Robert Hill-Smith, fifth-generation family winemaker.
“The 2019 vintage is a true expression of the Barossa's unique terroir, representing Australia's winemaking prowess. As we celebrate 175 years of family winemaking, this milestone release reflects our dedication to crafting wines with a sense of place and history."
Long considered a hallmark of Australian shiraz, The Octavius is crafted from some of the world’s oldest Shiraz vineyards, with some parcels dating back to 1854. According to Yalumba, the 2019 vintage displays intense aromas of black fruits with fragrant vanilla and spice that lingers on the palate. It is generous, balanced and rich, displaying a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation that has become synonymous with Yalumba's winemaking philosophy.
Robert Hill-Smith added, "it’s rare to find vines with the depth of heritage we have in the Barossa, and The Octavius is a tribute to these ancient vineyards and our winemaking tradition. The release of the 2009 vintage from our museum collection allows wine enthusiasts to experience the beauty of a perfectly cellared 15-year-old Barossa Shiraz.”
Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz 2019 and 2009 are available now through La Place de Bordeaux and can be purchased from specific negociants worldwide. Samuel Smith & Son and Negociants New Zealand will remain exclusive distributors for Australia and New Zealand only.
